The Origin

A Camera, A Stranger,
And a Courier That
Lost the Plot.

It started in Goa. A group trip, a rented cab, and one camera left behind when the car was returned. By the time anyone noticed, the cab had already been taken by another customer — a complete stranger.

Two days of calls to the cab owner, messages to everyone in the chain — nothing. The camera appeared to be gone. I came back to Hyderabad and quietly accepted it.

"She used Google Lens on the camera's videos to identify an organisation I'd mentioned, found me on LinkedIn, tracked me to Instagram, and sent a DM. A stranger found me across the entire internet — from a video on a camera she didn't know she had."

Then, a week later: an Instagram DM from a woman I had never met. She was the next passenger in that same cab. Her mother, while packing at the end of their trip, had unknowingly swept the camera into their bag.

This woman went through the camera's videos. In one of them, I mentioned the organisation I work for. She used Google Lens to find the organisation. She found their LinkedIn page. She found my name. She came to Instagram. She found me. She sent a message.

A complete stranger, with no tools except the internet and genuine human decency, performed a multi-step cross-platform search to return something that wasn't hers. I arranged for a friend in Gurgaon to collect it. We booked DTDC — home pickup — on 28th March 2026. Expected delivery: 7th April.

The camera that a stranger moved heaven and earth to return has now been lost by a professional courier for over 44 days. DTDC has no confirmed location for it. Two agents gave two different locations in the same hour. Not a single callback has been made despite being promised on every one of my 20+ calls.

This page exists to document what happened — accurately, factually, and completely. And to ensure that no one ships anything irreplaceable through DTDC without knowing what the experience might look like.

Support says Gurgaon. Then says Hyderabad. Both in the same hour.
Contradictory on record — same day, one hour apartCall #16: "Package written to Gurgaon. Collect from the centre that booked it."
Call #17: "Package is still in Hyderabad. It has not returned to Gurgaon."
Neither agent could provide a centre address, phone number, or any verifiable location.
Documented Developments

20 Calls.
The Same Four Answers.

Every new piece of information DTDC support provided — documented in order.

01
The 24/48-Hour Loop
The consistent response across all 20+ calls: "You will get information in 24 hours." Sometimes 48. The window rotates. The information never arrives. No agent has deviated from this script across any call.
Calls 1 through 15
02
The India Post Handoff
Revealed mid-way: DTDC had handed the package to India Post for last-mile delivery — without informing the sender. India Post has no tracking record of receiving it. Both carriers point at each other.
Calls 8–12
03
"You Booked Through a Local Store"
Around call 15, a new deflection: "You didn't book through our call centre, so we don't have details. Go to the local store in Gurgaon." The booking was a home pickup. No store was visited. No walk-in occurred.
Calls 15–16
04
The Address They Don't Have
Asked for the address or contact number of any DTDC centre near the pickup pin code in Gurgaon: "We don't have that information." There are 6+ centres in the area. DTDC could not narrow it to one or provide any contact.

05
It's in Gurgaon. No — Hyderabad.
Within one hour, two different agents gave two different cities. Agent one: "Written to Gurgaon." Agent two: "Still in Hyderabad." Both confident. Neither able to verify. The package's actual location remains unknown.

The Callback That Never Came
Every call ended with: "Our senior team will call you back in 24 hours." This has been said on every single one of the 20+ calls. The total number of callbacks received from DTDC's senior team: zero.

The DTDC Dictionary

What They Say
vs. What They Mean.

A translation guide for navigating DTDC's official communications.

"You will get information in 24 hours"
Said on every call, without exception
A promise that resets with every call. No information has arrived in 44+ days. The 24 hours simply become the next call's opening line.
"Attempted but Undelivered"
Official tracking status
A delivery event was logged in the system. Whether a delivery agent actually visited your address is a separate, unanswered question.
"RTO Approved"
Tracking update — no prior notification sent
The package is being returned to sender. No call was made. No alternative was offered. Approved on the same day as the "attempted" delivery.
"We don't have that information"
Response to: which centre has my package?
The DTDC customer support system does not contain addresses or phone numbers for its own franchise centres. This is the official, consistent answer.
"You booked through a local store"
Deflection introduced on call 15
An attempt to move responsibility to a third party. Offered even when the booking was a home pickup — no store, no agent, just a DTDC van arriving at a home address.
"Senior team will call back"
The closing line of every call
A phrase used to end conversations. The senior team does not call. Confirmed across 20+ consecutive calls spanning over 44 days.
"Ticket has been raised"
Official resolution step
A number now exists for your frustration. The ticket closes in 48 hours regardless of whether anything was resolved. The problem does not close with it.
"Package is in Gurgaon" / "Package is in Hyderabad"
From two agents, one hour apart
Two agents interpreted the same tracking system as two different cities. The package's actual location is unknown to both, and to this page.
Documented Patterns

It's Not Just
One Package.

These are recurring patterns — documented experiences that appear again and again across DTDC customer accounts.

The Founding Account · Darahas Muggu, Hyderabad
A camera found by a stranger through Google Lens, LinkedIn, and Instagram — returned across the internet through sheer human effort — then handed to DTDC for a straightforward 500km delivery. 44+ days, 20+ calls, two contradictory locations, zero callbacks. The package remains undelivered and unlocated.
Tracking: D1010805381 · Booked: 28 Mar'26 · Status: Unknown
RTO Without Notice
"My package reached my city. The next update was RTO Approved. No call, no message, no reason. Customer care said delivery was attempted. I was home the entire day."
Pattern: RTO same-day as attempted delivery · Reported frequently
The India Post Black Hole
"DTDC said they handed it to India Post. India Post says they have no record of receiving it. Both are confident. Neither has any idea where the package is."
Pattern: Unacknowledged handoff with no tracking continuity
The Ticket Carousel
"Ticket raised Monday. Auto-closed Wednesday. Raised again Thursday. Closed Saturday. I now track my tickets the way I used to track my shipment."
Pattern: Tickets closed on schedule regardless of resolution
The Phantom Delivery
"Tracking said Delivered. Nobody came. I live alone. There was no package at my door, with my neighbours, or at any DTDC centre nearby. Still marked delivered."
Pattern: Delivery logged in system without physical delivery
No Centre Address on Record
"They told me to go collect from the franchise. When I asked which one, they said they couldn't provide the address. When I asked for a phone number, same answer."
Pattern: Support cannot provide location of DTDC franchise centres
